Mentorship Program

All Officials Are Considered Tier 1 (1-9 Years of Experience) or Tier 2 (10+ Years of Experience).

Postseason Eligibility Requirements Are Different Depending on Tier Experience.

Tier 1

  • Accept and acknowledge your Mentee assignment through email with the assigned member of the SUBOA board over Post-Season eligibility.

  • Call, email, text, or meet in person with your Mentor at least once within the first 2 weeks of receiving your assigned Mentor.

  • Officiate at least 1 game with your assigned Mentor prior to January 31st.

  • Complete a full game Self-Evaluation with thorough notes on the following… 

    • Play calling

    • Positioning

    • Communication (Partners, Coaches, Players)

    • Professionalism

    • Rules knowledge/application

    • Fitness level (Mobility)

    • 3 specific improvements to make

  • Complete the online form covering the following topics listed below that should be discussed with your assigned Mentor during the season:  

    • Expectations as a High School Basketball Official

    • Game assignments, rankings, etc. 

    • All new rules changes  

    • Points of emphasis

    • Primary Coverage Areas

    • Pregame & Postgame duties, responsibilities, & discussion

    • Post-Season requirements, expectations & aspirations

    • Part I & II Tests

Tier 2
